  • Demolition of IFMA Tower – finalized

The elevator test tower is one of the highest industrial buildings in Bucharest, and also the highest test tower for elevators in Europe. It was built during 1986 – 1998 in order to test the elevators that were about to be installed within the “Casa Poporului” building, as the old test tower, having 37 m height, built in 1972, was considered too short.

For the building of 114 meters and 400 m section surface, with a reinforced concrete structure designed to hold 8 elevator shelters, we used 3 different technologies:

    • Demolition with cutter placed on a tower crane – unique technology in Romania, also used by our specialists when demolishing a 120 m tower at Paroseni
    • Demolition with two mini-excavators, placed on top of the tower, with the help of a tower crane
    • Diamond cutting

  • Successful operation on the Dacia Mioveni platform

Dacia Mioveni – Apolodor performed the demolition by implosion for the Administrative Building on the Dacia platform, Saturday , February 14, 2008, at 15:00 pm.

The building, consisting of 10 levels (Ug + Gf + 8F) and with a ground
footprint of 960 sqm, is only 3 meters from the connection building with
the new administrative one. The old pavilion had to be demolished so
that the nearby building (connected to power, water, gas, and fully
    functional) would not be damaged.

Following the controlled implosion, for which a quantity of 90 kg of explosive was used, the building tilted at 30° in the direction of the P3 car parking, so that, although they were very close, the connecting body and the new administrative building were not affected at all.

At a distance of 2 meters from the place where the building fell, there was also a functioning sewage, which also remained intact after the pavilion’s contact with the ground.

All the material resulted from the demolished building was collected in the pit executed prior to the implosion, which was 20 meters wide and surrounded by an earth dam, having the role of stopping the shock waves.
No damage was reported whatsoever (no broken windows of the surrounding buildings), and the photos showed that even the lighting poles at 2 meters distance remained untouched.

  • Spectacular demolition at Oltenita

    Oltenita Thermal Power Plant

The chimneys of the Oltenita Power Plant – the three towers of the former thermal plant of Oltenita city were demolished by controlled implosion.

The difficulty of the work was represented by the fact that the three towers, having heights of 80 meters, 60 meters, respectively 40 meters, made of concrete, had another brick tower inside. 78 kg of explosive were used for the demolition and special safety measures were taken.

The work was performed according to a technology introduced in Romania by our company since 1998.

Considering the height of the stalk (120 m) and the fact that there were thermal power station plants in operation very close to it, we have chosen the method of fine demolition, piece by piece, without disrupting their activity. There for, we used the Atlas Copco 2100 hydraulic shears, mounted on a Liebherr LTM 1500 crane with a 150 m jib, and driven by a large excavator Liebherr R 954, by the extension of the hydrostatic transmission pipelines. A transmission system for the images captured by a video camera placed on top of stalk helped the operator at the ground to drive the hydraulic shears with maximum precision.

The operation lasted 30 days and represented the most efficient method of demolition for a structure of such a height, being achieved in a very short time, without vibrations and disturbance of the activity within an area of 25 m, and in conditions of maximum safety.

The demolition was completed in January 2010 in conditions of maximum safety, without shocks, vibrations or heavy parts fallen from height. Throughout the works we intensively used a water jet in order to reduce the dust resulted from demolition.

The equipment used was a very large Liebherr R 954 excavator with a 28 m long jib and demolition hydraulic shears.
